I am going to start this post off with a little secret about me....I wasn't the neatest kid out there when I was younger. Every day after school I would come home and make No Bake Cookies (YUMMY), feed all the neighborhood kids that were at our house and then leave the mess for my mom. She asked me many times to pick up the mess before she got home so she didn't have to do that before cooking and I was like ya right. Her defense was to take the recipe and hide it. Well, I made it every day after school for such a long time that I could make it in my sleep if I wanted to. But over time ~ maybe a week and things getting hid on me and maybe a little threatening to ground me, I learned to clean up my mess so when she got home she didn't have to clean up after me to get dinner on the table. Now fast forward....many years......to now. In December my daughter made a concoction in the kitchen, only using a couple of bowls and left my counters covered in flour, sugar, you name it! I had asked her in the past many times to pick up her mess and she was like ya right. So, in December I told her she couldn't make anything in the kitchen until February. A week ago she made a small concoction and dirtied a couple of bowls but she cleaned all the counters and rinsed her dishes and put them in the sink. My beautiful daughter made three things in the kitchen today, she melted candy for a mold, a chocolate souffle (you can imagine this didn't turn out) and cookies that she didn't have all the ingredients for so why not throw chocolate chips in and call them chocolate chip cookies. She dirtied almost all my baking stuff and put them in my sink. In her defense she did learn in December that she had to clean the counters since she was told that if she didn't there would be no concoctions being made for a month. My sink was overflowing and I told her she had to do the dishes and she was like ya right. I told her when I bake I have to clean up after myself and she was like ya right. Then this is what happened:
Daddy ~ "Why should your mother have to do the dishes when she didn't make the mess?"
Daughter ~ "She always does the dishes, I just have to clean the counters."
Daddy ~ "Do you think that is fair?"
Daughter ~ "Yes." This was said very quietly.
Daddy ~ "Should I make a big dinner tonight and have you clean it all up, would that be fair?"
Daughter ~ "No." Very sheepishly.
Daddy ~ "I will show you how to load the dishwasher."
Daughter (not moving)
Daddy ~ "Did you hear me?"
Daughter ~ "Yes."
Daddy ~ "Then let's go."
And off they went to empty my sink. Why, when I ask do I get the face of ya right but when Daddy says let's go, she jump up and goes, well maybe not that fast, since she did drag her feet but there wasn't any talk back.
And now why is my title called "Getting Even" because I think my mom wished this on me and she is getting even!
