Have you ever had a day that starts out GREAT and then you find yourself going here?
Mrs. Connelly, Samantha's principal, called me yesterday at 11:40 to say that Samantha had an accident and she got a cut that they felt I needed to look at. So, I rushed (Yes, I did NOT stay in the speed limit and got behind every slow person out there, which I proceeded to pass) to her school and found my baby calm and eating her lunch. Then she turned her face and I saw the BIG cut on her beautiful check, I looked at it and said I think it will need stitches.
VENT TIME: I called Samantha's family doctor and got a recording saying they were running normal business hours BUT I never got a person...Sam's teacher said "I think doctor offices don't handle things like this." My thought GREAT, why do I have a family doctor!!
I packed Samantha up in the car and took her to the emergency room. After a while (did I say a while, I mean a long time) of waiting the doctor finally came and saw Sam. He looked and said if it was anywhere else on her body he would stitch it but felt that wasn't a good option for her face due to scaring. I didn't even think about that!! He glued the cut shut and put the tape over it and said don't get it wet or pick it. Now I have to worry about scaring, does anyone have a remedy that will help this?

HOLY COW!!!
How did it happen??
Liza got stitches in between her eyes a few years ago...the best way to prevent scarring is to use aloe vera on it and vitamin E, and as it heals, massage it so that it breaks up the collogen and doesn't build up scar tissue as bad. Most importantly, at least for the first year (and probably longer, we still do it) is to MAKE SURE you put sunscreen on it. It will be really sensitive to burning and will make the scarrinf worse if it gets too much sun exposure.
Good luck...poor girl!
Poor Sam! That's a bit more than a bump of knowlege! So how did it happen? If I was there I would spoil her! Love Mom/Grandma
Samantha got this cut by jumping up and catching her cheek on a door latch.
Oh no!! I know, don't you love the wait times at Ontario hospitals!?
I am glad the school phoned, and I hope she doesn't end up with a scar.
I scraped my face last summer Susan, when I fainted at our pool. The concrete pool deck broke my fall and I kept putting Vitamin E straight from the tablets on it. No one can even tell how messed up my face was. Give it a try on Samantha and it should work! I did it 2-3 times a day!
Bless her sweet heart!
Poor girl - looks like she handled it very well though, I'd be the one that's the wreck.
How I hate ER rooms.
I see you commented that she did it on a door latch - wow - that's one scary sharp door latch.
